World Environment Day-2023 was celebrated at Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd. on 5th June 2023. On this occasion, an Awareness-cum-Plantation Programme was organized at the OHPC Training Centre, Bhubaneswar. Dr.Sundara Narayana Patro, President, Orissa Environmental Society, Prof. Choudhury Suryakant Mishra, Former Director, OUAT and Sri B.K.Mishra, Convenor, Odisha CSR Forum were guests for the occasion. Dr.P.K.Mohanty, Director (HR) & Sri Asish Kumar Mohanty, Director (Operation) were present during the programme and addressed the employees of OHPC. Dr.P.K.Mohanty gave the welcome address and emphasized on the present critical scenario of environment pollution. He also said how we are not able to continue plantation in a proper manner and take immediate steps to help the Mother Nature. Sri Asish Kumar Mohanty while speaking gave statistical figures of water level in real life scenario and the actions taken on the matter. He stressed on the point that in addition to plantation we should also focus on maintaining them for life long. Dr. S N Patro gave a brief history of Environment Day and various conclaves held around the world. He stressed on misuse of Single use plastic and how to manage them in our lifestyle. And as it is become difficult to totally stop plastic use, so it is better to lessen the use to maximum extent. He also showed concern on the decline of water level and increase in temperature globally. Prof. Choudhury Suryakant Mishra gave an idea on micro-plastic and how it enters the food chain of living beings, Increase in use of Bio degradables and dangers associated with cosmetic products. Sri B.K.Mishra while delivering his address stressed on the importance of environmental sustainability in CSR. The vote of thanks of the programme was presented by Ms.Smruti Sudha Panda, Manager (PR). After the inaugural Programme, all the guests and employees planted various plants at the New OHPC Training Hostel premises.
